SOUNDING A MOSAIC

Enter the night glassy eyed and ready.

Flash on, a change of clothes in the back.

My phone's away, my voice is louder.

Wheel becomes a drumroll, the brake, a kickdrum.

Blurring the lights, the motion moves on.

I will enter the night, for the promise of life.

fate and folly

from now on, everyone is a second best, a rebound, settling for less.
day old steak, flat coke and an open freezer.
a sustained note, the breathe before a dive, 1% battery life.
lying to myself over pasta and chicken nuggets.
changing my memories in a scalding shower.
running away through dying my hair.
incomparable to back then.

I'm taking this for what it is, an ending.

I'm keeping track of today for what it is, terrible.

Hiding in sheds, getting under the influence.

she found her way from a bus stop on the corner.

with a map by her side, looking straight ahead,

she got on with the rest of them and drove into the sun.

no one asked her why and no one looked twice,

but she sang all the way, from dusk until dawn.

she sang of the life she's running towards,

and she's buying the stairway to heaven.
